I’m certain many of us have heard the following statement or something similar. “I can’t do that, I’m uneducated. I wish I had paid more attention when I was at school.”

If that sounds like something you’ve said (or even thought) in the past, then there is a good reason for you feeling that way. Maybe a schoolteacher told you there was no hope for you, or perhaps friends made cruel jibes (they weren’t and never will be friends by the way). Maybe your parents never gave you the support you needed, or it could have been an employer who didn’t see eye to eye with you. Whatever the reason for your lack of paper qualifications, I am here to tell you that it really doesn’t matter a jot. I do of course acknowledge that in certain professions a minimum educational qualification is required. But believe me, I have worked with some educated idiots who have scraped by in life. I have equally worked with some rough diamonds (some would go so far as to say they were thick) and yet they earned a fortune.

So it really doesn’t matter what category you think you fall into because I am here to help you make a brand new start in your life, starting today! And the first thing you must do is to forget your past struggles with other people who apparently knew better than you. They were talking nonsense. It’s your life (and as far as I know, we only get one chance) so let’s get going…

How Do I Get Started?

There is no doubt the Internet has changed our lives forever. The fact that you are reading this article proves how far-reaching the power available to you is. If you have an internet connection, then you can set up your own business within a few hours.

But before we get to that, let’s look at what may happen to you when you proudly announce that you are going to work from home and be self-sufficient. Some call it a health warning, but I prefer to call it a wealth warning. When others see or hear what you are up to (i.e. trying to better yourself) the great majority will suddenly become experts on every subject under the sun. Let me list a few of the comments that will be spouted in your direction by well-meaning friends.

“You’re too young”

If you don’t start when you want to, when exactly will you start? Are your friends really suggesting that you should wait until some undefined date before you place your first step on the ladder to success? If you ask them precisely when you should start, you will get a wishy-washy answer about “giving it a couple of years.” If you push them further, there is a good chance that they will walk away with the right hump. The only reason they will do this is that they can’t answer your question. In other words, they can’t back up their statement with facts.

“You’re too old”

In other words, you should have started on a new lifestyle years ago when you were young and inexperienced. That way you could have made your mistakes while learning and still have years ahead of you to rectify things. Your friends will of course conveniently overlook the fact that you can now bring a wealth of life’s experiences to the party…something that is priceless. When pushed into a corner, don’t be surprised if their response is similar to the “too young” scenario.

“Wait for a better time”

This is a roundabout way of saying we are in a recession. You should wait until things settle down, or until after the next General Election. That way, according to your friends, you will be sure to succeed. My only response to this would be to suggest that your friends have been reading too many newspapers or watching television to such an extent that they actually believe what they are told! The truth is there is no perfect time to start when these things have been suggested by a politician. When was the last time you heard a Government spokesman pat us all on the back and tell us that things are going so well that they won’t need to ask us for more money? Apart from the lead-up to an election, the answer is never. The only correct time to start on a new journey is when you want to.

“You don’t have enough talent”

This is linked to education and your mental attitude. Again, don’t worry. Provided you work to your utmost ability, and always give 100% you will overcome any shortfall in ability. You will be amazed at just what you can do. And the great thing about this business is that there is always help available.

“You fail at everything you do”

As far as I’m concerned, I’ve had more failures than successes. In fact, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t come into that category. Some of life’s most successful entrepreneurs have got it wrong time and time again before finally achieving what they set out to do. The only difference between them and Mr or Mrs. Average is that they didn’t give up. And neither should you. What would be the point of wanting to do something, only to be discouraged by a well-meaning do-gooder? It really doesn’t matter here if we are talking about setting up a new business, wanting to take flying lessons, studying a new language, or learning to play tiddleywinks. Give it your best shot if it’s what you want to do!
