Don’t Run Away… This Really Could Work!

Yes, I know this website is aimed primarily at women (there’s a clue in allflourishingwomen.com) but sometimes it helps to share your ideas and goals with someone else. No matter how independent, determined, or ambitious you are, we all have times when we need a sounding board alongside us.
You may be fortunate enough to have a really good friend who would be willing to be such a person. Or perhaps you have a member of your family who is good at giving advice. But there are problems with these choices.
You see if you are 100% committed to setting up and running your own business from scratch, then you will need 100% support. Imagine the scenario when you start off like an express train and let your friends and family know what you are doing. They are more than likely going to wish you well, but deep down they will have reservations. They are not being nasty, it’s simply human nature, and they genuinely believe that they are looking out for you.
But in reality, they may be thinking things like “She’s too young”, “She’s too old”, “Wait for a better time”, “She didn’t have the right education”, or “She doesn’t have enough talent”, “She doesn’t have the energy”, “She fails at everything she does” etc., etc.
Ok, they may not say it to your face, but even if they are having those private thoughts, they can subliminally be passed on to you. And if you’re not careful, all of your plans can be destroyed over a very short period of time.
So Who Can You Trust?
Despite the newspaper headlines telling us that between 33% and 41% of marriages end in divorce, what that actually means is that between 59% and 67% are successful. So, it depends on which way you look at it. The bad news is what newspapers thrive on, after all.
And of those failures, many couples remain in touch with each other and realize that they had a great friendship, but they simply couldn’t live together.
This means that there are plenty of couples who continue to trust each other and could work together, married or not. It all comes down to your own take on the situation, but have you seriously considered working with your husband/partner? After all, there are thousands of men that have been made redundant in the past few years, either by the effects of firms downsizing or as a knock-on effect of the pandemic. A lot of those men may have lost their self-confidence and may jump at the opportunity to work closely with you. There is nothing quite like regaining a feeling of being appreciated. To be seen as a confidente and business partner, if you like.
What Could You Do Together?
The problem for a lot of couples is deciding what they should do. If you are at all entrepreneurial, you will no doubt have thought of starting your own business. The thought of being your own boss is extremely attractive. The fact that you are reading this post is a good clue to this.
But the reality for many is facing up to the lack of capital to invest. If you search the internet for ideas, many “experts” will suggest buying a franchise, because the business models are tried and tested. But it really is frightening to see how much money is required to buy even the most basic franchise. Typically, you would be asked to invest most, if not all of your life savings into what is something of a gamble. I have nothing against franchises, and I know that thousands of people earn a very good living from them. But it is still a gamble. Even after parting with your hard-earned cash, there is no guarantee that you could pay yourself much above an average salary for the first few years.
You may be highly qualified in a particular area, maybe banking, insurance, HR, construction, retail management, or medicine. The list of course is endless. But if you are serious about starting your own business, you may find that the “big boys” in your particular field of expertise have most of the marketplace tied up. And so again, the risks are high.
It’s a fact that most businesses cease trading within the first 3 years, which is scary.
And so you may well have considered
So what is it that I am going to propose you look at that has so many advantages and you should seriously consider investigating further?
Something that will allow you to earn as little or as much as you have ever dreamed of, all from the comfort of your home…that’s what!
Let me make a few things clear:
- This is NOT a get-rich-quick scheme.
- Like all businesses, you need to work at it…money will not fall out of the sky.
- If you follow the training, you WILL succeed…don’t try to cut corners.
- You can try this business model completely FREE OF CHARGE until you decide it’s for you.
- Full support is available 24 hours a day.
- You can work on your business at any time of the day or night to suit your lifestyle.
If you are like thousands of other potential entrepreneurs, you may well have thought of buying and selling goods on the internet. It sounds like a great idea until you get down to the finer details.
- What should you sell?
- Where do you source the goods?
- Do I have to pay upfront for the goods? (Usually yes!)
- Where do I advertise?
- How much should I charge for the goods?
- Will my competitors drop their prices and force me out of business?
- How do I arrange postage and packing?
- How much will postage cost?
- What happens when a customer returns the goods for any reason?
- And so on and so on…
So, Let’s Forget That And Discover What This Business Is That Can Totally Change Your Life!
It’s called Affiliate Marketing.
In a nutshell, affiliate marketing allows you to be an entrepreneur without all of those worries and risks listed above. If you had asked me what affiliate marketing was 18 months ago, I couldn’t have answered you, as I had never heard of it. And neither have millions of people worldwide, even though they are unaware of it nearly every time they purchase goods on the internet.
There are literally thousands upon thousands of companies these days who sell their products online. Most of us are aware of the seismic change in shopping habits over the past ten years. Who would want to own a High Street business these days?
But all of those companies selling online are desperate to increase their sales. They have purchased their stock, paid for it, stored it, and now need to shift it to customers as soon as possible.
So instead of paying for all of the overheads associated with a traditional business…rent, electricity, staff, wages, sick pay, health and safety problems, upkeep of their premises, etc. they can afford to pay a commission to a person or persons who can shift the goods for them. That is called affiliate marketing.
So as an affiliate marketer, you are in effect the middle man/woman who doesn’t have to get involved with any of the nasty setup and running costs that we have already discussed.
So, how do you become an affiliate marketer?
There are hundreds of articles and courses available to you, and many of them are very good. Some of them, you may not be surprised to learn can be the opposite! As I said earlier, I have been an affiliate marketer for about 18 months, so I am still in relative infancy. But in that time, my life has been transformed. I am not allowed to quote figures, but suffice to say I am very comfortable.
Having researched the marketplace, I finally chose a company called Wealthy Affiliate for various reasons. The first was that they offer a complete introductory set of online videos which is absolutely free of charge to watch and then decide if this business is for you.
If it’s not, you can walk away and it won’t cost you a penny!
The second reason I chose it is because you are not hounded day and night to do something that may be not for you. Some companies simply won’t stop chasing you.
And the third reason is that the two men who own and run the company are really nice guys. They don’t boast or make false promises, they simply lay out the facts and offer you a course that is second to none.
I can’t recommend their work highly enough. As I said earlier, they have changed my life, so why not let them change yours? Remember, it’s free to look and no credit card details required.

I am in the affiliate marketing field for the past 5 years and today I own 4 successful websites. In my opinion, this is an emerging field in which someone can see a bright future without taking many risks as you mentioned above. The only thing is that this field takes time and a lot of hard work, you must keep updating and posting on your website without thinking of any return with the main motive to gain the trust of your readers, once it is done then there is no looking back.
Thank you for your kind comments. I agree, that this business doesn’t bring success overnight but then I don’t know of any business that does bring instant wealth. If people are willing to work hard, the results are there…
I really do think that starting an online business together with the help of affiliate marketing as a married (or otherwise) couple could work, but to be honest, I think that you would need to build something in which you both are interested. I mean in a niche that both of you are interested in, a mutual hobby for it to work. Don’t you think that if the woman is interested in crochet, but the husband isn’t, that this will not work haha? Or the other way round, hubby likes football, but the wife doesn’t. So in my opinion, if you have a common passion, why not! Great article for food for thought thanks!
Thanks, Lizzy for your realistic and honest reply. You make a great point that may stop a war from breaking out in the home!
Your opening line, don’t run away” had me giggling to myself. I love that as an opening line. It made me stay and read the rest! Great job letting readers know that this is an ongoing business and NOT at all a get rich quick scheme. It’s refreshing to read that instead of the “get rich quick” that we often seen thrown in our faces. Excellent article! Also, Wealthy Affiliate is just the BEST.
Thanks for your lovely response, Christina. I’m glad I made you smile as I believe in trying to mix business with pleasure. Too many people take life too seriously, and I can tell you’re on the same wavelength as myself. Keep cheerful…
Great article! I really liked how you talked about having a husband and wife potentially work together on an affiliate marketing business. I’ve been doing affiliate marketing for the last five years, and often, I wish that I had someone close to me work with me on the business. It would have accelerated the business growth so much more. The only problem I see with having a husband and wife work together on a business is how business problems may affect their personal lives. Any tips on setting boundaries and working through issues together?
Thanks, Kevin, you make a valid point. On the other hand, I see lots of businesses being run by husband and wife partnerships such as pubs, post offices, dental practices, and small convenience stores to name just a few. Obviously, I have no idea what goes on behind closed doors, but some appear to survive for years. It could be a good idea for each partner to set up different niches, and bounce ideas off each other. Just remember to dodge the bullets if you’re in the vicinity…
