Working From Home Alongside A Family

One of the most common questions that arise when discussing women working from home is “How can I make the time to earn money when I have babies or children to look after?”

This is more than a fair observation and one that cannot be answered simply. After all, we all have different homes, backgrounds, commitments, priorities, and personal needs.

On that subject, my own view is that children should always be the number one priority. So if your first thought has been a negative one, e.g. “I’ll never be able to do this because I need to devote so much time to my children” I am totally sympathetic to your emotions.

There Are Ways To Make Time.

You may have seen in one of my previous articles that I suggest devoting a couple of hours each day towards building your business and by default, obtaining financial freedom. But what if you can only find one hour or maybe as little as 30 minutes a day, is that such a major obstacle?

No, it’s not!

All it means is that it will take you longer to achieve your goals. This isn’t a race, but there is one thing that is certain. If in a year’s time you have done nothing but think about the negatives, then I guarantee that you will still be messing around on the internet looking for ways to earn money from home. So stop thinking about obstacles that could get in the way, and instead change your mindset. Take baby steps (no pun intended…) and you will get there.

There may be days when you will feel a little guilty about devoting an hour to “your time”. But if by achieving something that just a few weeks before you never dreamed of doing, you will feel good inside. And a happy Mom is not only good for your well-being but the vibes will also be picked up by your family.

And so start thinking about it. Maybe when your child is taking a nap, you could spend half an hour working on your business. I know you need rest time too, but as stated earlier, just do a little at a time when you can.

If you are a Mom who occasionally enjoys popping out to a coffee shop, it could be that this is an ideal time to work while your baby sleeps alongside you.

If your children are toddlers, it could be that you spend time with them at play centers. I know you have to be alert as to what they are up to, but again you could grab an opportunity to use your laptop or your smartphone to your advantage.

Or it could be that your children enjoy watching television with you alongside them. A good compromise is that while they are engrossed in their favorite cartoon, you can use a pair of earphones to watch and listen to the training videos. You may need to only use one pod though!

These are of course just a few ideas. If you put your mind to it, I’m sure you can come up with a variety of situations that you can use to your advantage. But whatever you do, I would like to give one final piece of advice to help you on your journey.

Distractions While Working From Home

We have all been there, and I’m sure you will recognize what I am about to talk about. You’ve made up your mind to do some work, you have sorted out the children, and you’re ready to go. But then you decide to quickly take a look at Facebook or Tik Tok. That quick look turns into ten minutes and suddenly you are amazed to find that you have been gawking at a screen for half an hour or more.

You may have chuckled at a few stupid videos, but I can almost guarantee that the wasted time spent staring at nonsense will have done nothing to improve your day. Am I being harsh? No, I really don’t think that I am. If you’ve made up your mind to work, then please do what you promised yourself. You will feel so much better for it, and there are always other times to browse social media.

Remember, you have worked hard to organize your time around your children, so please don’t waste it.
