Where to start…

When you are new to Affiliate Marketing, you will naturally have many questions. One of the main queries you will no doubt be asking yourself is how to source companies that are looking to partner with Affiliate Marketers. In other words, which company’s products should you promote to earn commissions for yourself?
Far from being a restricted market, there are literally thousands of companies that you could promote. However, my best advice is to jot down the subjects that you are interested in. These could range from work-related topics to hobbies, passions, or even household goods that you would recommend to others. By promoting goods that appeal, you can rest assured that a certain percentage of people feel the same as you. And so. search out the sites that fit the goods you are promoting.
Having said that, as a newbie you really want to make things as easy as possible for yourself. Therefore it may be a wise move to partner with companies that are well known to the general public. That way, if you recommend something, the potential customer will already be inclined to purchase the goods if they come from a company that everyone’s heard of.
Many of the companies are worldwide brands. Unless you’ve been sleeping under a rock for the past 20 years, you and your potential customers will be familiar with most, if not all of these.
To give an example of this, one of the best places to start is to become an Amazon Associate. It really doesn’t matter what product you are promoting, because Amazon will almost certainly have a range of stock. So all you have to do is direct potential customers to Amazon, ensuring your Associate link is attached. Then as soon as the customer decides to buy and clicks the Buy Now button, Amazon knows that you are due a commission.
Most people these days have an Amazon account with their bank card details saved. And so can you see that they are relaxed about purchasing their goods via your link because they already trust the brand? The majority don’t have to faff around filling out their bank card details, because they are already on file.
How Do You Sign Up To An Affiliate Program?
For the moment, let’s stay with Amazon. All you have to do is log onto the Amazon site and then scroll down the home page as far as you can. At the very bottom of the page, you will see headings such as “Get To Know Us” and “Amazon Payment Methods” etc. There will also be a heading “Make Money With Us”. Under that heading are a number of subheadings, one of which is entitled “Associates Programme”. You should click on that, and you will be taken to an application form that is straightforward. Submit your request to become an Affiliate Marketer and you should hear back within a very short period. On the assumption that your request is accepted, Amazon will supply you with an Affiliate Link so that you will then receive commissions every time you direct a customer to their site and they actually purchase goods recommended by you.
The method of signing up for all other companies is very similar. You will normally find the Affiliates link at the bottom of the home page, but there are a few anomalies so don’t give up if you can’t find the link immediately. It will be there somewhere!
Which Companies Have Links For Affiliates?
As I stated earlier, there’s a multitude of companies all actively searching for Affiliate Marketers. However, that doesn’t mean that every company has this type of business model. And so in the early days, I can only advise you to log onto relevant sites pertaining to your interests and see if they have such a program.
As you progress you can join companies such as ShareASale that list thousands of companies and they are worth their weight in gold. But they and similar companies all tend to want to see that you are an active Affiliate and that you have your own website. So as I say, in the early days, simply look at well-known company’s websites and progress slowly but surely.
The following are good places to start:
- Amazon www.amazon.com
- Etsy www.etsy.com
- eBay www.ebay.com
- Shopify www.shopify.com
- Groupon www.groupon.com
- Rakuten www.rakuten.com
- Commission Junction (CJ) www.cj.com
- Clickbank www.clickbank.com
- J V Zoo www.JVZoom.co
- Expedia www.expedia.com
- Bluehost www.bluehost.com
- Kajabi www.kajabi.com
This could be the start of a new career, either full or part-time. And what’s more the earning potential is as high or as low as your effort. To put it another way, thousands of people who started as part-time affiliates, have been able to switch to full-time and are now earning far greater incomes than they ever did in the past.
